The Australian Equities Fund has always been conservatively managed. It invests in companies with reasonable valuations and growing cashflows, and holds cash if there are not enough opportunities that meet those criteria. Although the team had obviously not predicted the current crisis, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak their valuation discipline led them to supplement the Fund’s healthy cash holding with ASX put options to provide further protection against a market fall.
